Veterans Day

On Veterans Day, we are called to remember all the veterans who have served our country. It is easy, in our comfortable lives to simply forget, to forget all those who died for freedom, those who struggled bravely against evil.

This year, my mind keeps returning to those brave men and women of what has been called the greatest generation. Not so long ago, the world was rocked by evil. Hitler was marching across Europe. When he began, people stayed behind closed doors, hoping that the evil would not touch them, while Hitler began his ruthless abuse of power. The war began to rage and it was a desperate time. America sent around 2 million to fight in Europe. Hundreds of thousands lost their lives battling for what we hold dear. The accounts of the battles, and of D-Day, are heart-wrenching. Great sacrifices were made by our soldiers and by the families on the home front. As this generation passes on, we must remember and never forget.

Over the years, American servicemen and women have fought bravely in many wars for the ideals of freedom. In our safe little world it is easy to forget that this very day there are soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq fighting for us, fighting for liberty.

Remember not just today, but each day, to lift our soldiers up in prayer, and to thank those who have served. Whether they have been to war or not, each person who joins the military is willing to give even their lives for those liberties we all too often take for granted. May I never forget.

As I looked through videos and photos, poems and quotes, first hand accounts, I cried many tears. Choosing seems impossible. How can I begin to show my gratitude in one small post. I can't. So, over the next few months, on Tuesdays, I will post a video, or poem, quotes, or a prayer in remembrance of those who have served and those who do so even now. Even that is too little, but I offer it in love and with a grateful heart.

May God bless our veterans and our troops and their families for their great service. And may God bless America!
