Senate must raise debt ceiling above $12T

The Senate must move legislation to raise the federal debt limit beyond $12.1 trillion by mid-October, a move viewed as necessary despite protests about the record levels of red ink.

The move will highlight the nation’s record debt, which has been central to Republican attacks against Democratic congressional leaders and President Barack Obama. The year’s deficit is expected to hit a record $1.6 trillion.

Democrats in control of Congress, including then-Sen. Obama (Ill.), blasted President George W. Bush for failing to contain spending when he oversaw increased deficits and raised the debt ceiling.

“Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren,” Obama said in a 2006 floor speech that preceded a Senate vote to extend the debt limit. “America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership.”

Obama later joined his Democratic colleagues in voting en bloc against raising the debt increase.

Well, isn't that interesting... when it was Pres. Bush and the debt ceiling needed to be raised... Obama fought against it. He said it was a failure of leadership. It was shifting the burden of bad choices onto the backs of our children and grandchildren.. but now??? Now we have to do it again.. and in fact, still pass even more spending bills, such as health care bills.

And for the record.. I was opposed to Pres. Bush's wild spending and expanding of entitlements.. although I was not opposed to military spending. Military spending is one of the only things provided for in the Constitution... the federal government is to provide for our defense. I realize thinking individuals can disagree on the war in Iraq but military spending is at least in the Constitutional role of the federal government. This ongoing spending and growing of federal government is AGAINST the Constitution and must be stopped.

It is interesting how one's perspective changes once one is in power. Isn't it?

Well... hm. Once again, it seems there are those in his administration who have illusions of grandeur or even a messiah complex about our president. His original study guides for the school video were self-aggrandizing. And we know he has made statements implying that with his presidency would be the moment the world heals.. the seas stop rising.. etc. But this one.. is a new level of funny. I have copied this picture from the White House official blog. Do you remember how Obama campaigned.. that he would work with people on both sides of the aisle? I remember... I am not sure he does.

Universal Health Care ~ The Lie

I have been meaning to post on this for a while. The great lie.

If you have been watching the news or Obama lately... you must have heard our President repeatedly say that under his plan you will have the choice to keep your own plan, if you like it. He says this every opportunity he can.

And its a lie.

According to the bill, there will be many new requirements for health insurance plans. It will mean that your plan will be required, most likely, to change. It will become much more expensive for the insurance company.. and so more so for either you or your boss.

But to me the bigger lie is the lie of omission. You see.... IF this plan passes the ability to get private insurance IMMEDIATELY freezes. So.. that means, if you like the plan you have RIGHT NOW... and the plan continues, you can keep it. BUT... if you change jobs... or the plan cancels... or you want to shop for a different plan.. YOU ARE OUT OF LUCK. The only option will be to go to the government plan. You can't get a different private plan. It is forbidden.

So, when Obama says you can keep your plan he is telling you half the story.

And then there is the care under the plan... our government workers have no plans to take the plan.. nor Congress... any idea why not? lol. They like their private plan. Its better. You may be forced to be on a public plan, but they won't. Too bad, so sad.

Prairie Sunset ~ A new "artwork" I did using gimp

This is a piece I "painted" using the free computer graphics program called gimp. Someday I hope to get a draw pad for my computer to make it easier.... right now I am just using a mouse or more often the mouse touchpad on my laptop.. and zooming in a lot to do any detailing. Even so, I am getting better at having it do what I want it to.

And I am enjoying it. I have not done much art since having kids.. the mess and the time are limiters. The advantage to this is I can save whenever I need to.. and there is no mess at all.
