The Decline of a Nation

This week I chose a quote by John Adams as the quote of the week.
"Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."
This relates to a topic that has been on my mind for a while. Obama has said this is no longer a Christian nation. This is debatable. Even so it is not disputable that this is not a MORAL nation. If you spend much time looking at the morality of just 50 years ago and now you will see an incredible decline. There has always been sin. We are human and fallen. But our modern culture revels in its immorality. It is not only done, or accepted, but called good and fine.

Recent numbers reveal that 40% of births are now out of wedlock in this nation. 40%!!! Teen pregnancy and single motherhood is accepted and even glorified. Movie stars and musicians choose this life and the world applauds. The reality that this is both immoral because God says so.. but also is proven to be detrimental to the children is totally ignored.

Homosexuality was called an abomination in the Bible, a mental disorder by psychologists until the 1990s even by the WHO, and now is both normal and acceptable.. but is almost a protected minority.

When I was growing up the family hour was squeaky clean and the family really could sit down and watch tv together safely without worrying about what they might see. When Threes Company came on it was a scandal even though it was shown after the family hour ended. Now, television glorifies all sorts of immorality, violence and sexuality are promoted, and swearing is now the common language. America seems to just accept it. We see some hope in the movie industry that has had a revival of sorts in the G rated category because it is consistently a money maker... but even in children's programming we see broken families and bratty behavior as the expected norm.

Let's go back to Adam's quote. "Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." Can our nation survive? Our Constitution has been twisted and the government has grown and our nation is nothing like what the founders intended. The Constitution does not protect us any more.. it has been warped by the immoral and unfaithful who sought governmental power and who lived by greed. And I do believe Adams was right. It could not hold up under such an attack. We are witnessing the results now.

May God turn our hearts back before it is too late.. if it is not already.
