Advent Devotion ~ An Outlook of Hope (Day 12)

The Scriptures are filled with sections that are given by God so that we may have hope. And it is clear why. The world sure does not seem to inspire hope. Those without Christ search for hope in the grim realities of our fallen world. This is why so many latched onto Obama's message of hope. But the hopes of the world are all false. Our hope is doomed to failure in the world for all men are fallen. The world disappoints. But God does not.

And so we look to Christmas with a sense of hope. Christ is our hope. Christ born, and Christ crucified. As Christians, we live in the world, but our hope is not here.

Oh yes, we still hope for a particular gift. Hope for a sunny day. Hope for a new job. Hope for better things in this world. But none of these things our true hope. These are temporal things. Our treasure, our hope is in Christ alone.

This Advent, this Christmas season, I look past the world, to fix my eyes on my hope, my Savior, my Redeemer, my Shepherd, my Jesus.

1 Tim 4:10 "For it is for this we labor and strive, because we have fixed our hope on the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of believers."
