HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
This day was wisely established for the purpose of giving thanks to Almighty God for the blessings He pours out upon us. Our early Presidents also asked us to spend the day not only giving thanks, but also in repentance and in prayer for our nation. John Adams actually called the day the national Day of Fasting and Humiliation!
I hope that your Thanksgiving is filled with many of these blessings... with laughter and joy, family and friends, good food and good times.
These are truly wonderful blessings... but the purpose of the day is even deeper.
Our nation has always needed God. We most certainly do now. Given some of the rampant immorality of our nation, given our country's act of deliberately distancing itself from God, it is crucial that we remember our nation in prayer.
Today, I will prayerfully give thanks for all the blessings in my life... for family, and friends, food and shelter, for freedom and the for the troops who protect that freedom, and for all of God's rich blessings. I will also be in humble repentance for my sins and the corporal sins of our nation.
"If my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from Heaven, and I will forgive their sin, and I will heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14
