Yeah... OK... It has been awhile

I had planned on blogging every day. I was doing really well, too. Then, one morning I woke up with nothing to say. No... not true. I always have something to say. I had nothing to say that I felt should be shared here on the blog.

Then a couple of days went by. I would open my blog. Stare at this empty new post box. And then close it. I was uninspired.

Then on Tuesday, we went to the Lincoln Museum with friends. It was a wonderful trip. Very fun. I wanted to blog about this on Wednesday. Ah, but I couldn't. You see... I wanted to put in my pictures. But I haven't loaded any pictures onto my computer for a very long time... and I was sitting on the laptop. I can't load pictures onto my laptop. I don't have the do-hickey for it and there are no media slots on this laptop.

And so, being me, I procrastinated. Today, I decided to fill space. I am posting. Not a very interesting post. I still don't have pictures from my trip. But I am posting. Soon I will post and include a picture of my children standing with a young Abe Lincoln. Yup... the statue you see in the above picture. My kids are right there next to him.

As to the trip. It was a great learning experience. I highly recommend the Abraham Lincoln museum in Springfield, Illinois. It does not have tons of depth but the material is presented in a way that holds the attention of the children and adults there. There are two shows. One is 3D and interesting, the other a show with many special effects and very educational as well as fun. As with most museums there is much to look at and read and walk through. We all learned a lot.

The Illinois exhibit was about elections. It gave a good perspective on how close many of our elections have been. How some were won without a majority. And how some were true landslides. The greatness of the president does not seem to be related to this factor, in general.

Another exhibit showed all the political cartoons bashing Abraham Lincoln. Nastiness in politics is certainly not new. The perspective of what our country has gone through changes the way I look at this election. I still have dismay over the way our country is going, but I remain hopeful. Our country is strong. I pray it will remain so. And I will do my part to teach my children the history of our country, its dark parts but also its grand triumphs and the dream it represents. As this next generation steps into the role of leadership, I can hope that they will do a better job of leading our country and of following our God.
